Wish List

An Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a new romance. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

Director: John Crowley, Writers: Nick Hornby (screenplay), Nick Hornby (writer), Colm Toibin (novel)

Stars: Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson

Interesting that it took almost a year from its USA Release at Sundance to actually get to our theatres.  Now, try to find a local theatre in which to view it.  (Hoping)

I read about the author, Colm Toibin, on an Irish writing blog and decided to read this book. The first part about the experiences of living in Ireland and then coming to America was really interesting to me. And when I found out they were making it into a movie, I actually marked the release date on my calendar. When it hit the love story part, I guess I found my interest flagging. I wish I liked this kind of story better. And I also suppose I felt I had an idea of where it was all going. The story is told through the eyes of the young woman. Seeing that she has reasons to return to Ireland, maybe I need to revisit it. If you do get the chance to see the movie, I would certainly love to hear your thoughts.
