Irish Entertainer, Singer and Story Teller Extraordinaire!
Several months ago, we published an entry titled, “Grace”. The entry alludes to a poignant story about one of the heroes of the 1916 Rebellion in Ireland, led by a small band of men and women who wanted to break away from British rule and establish their island as a separate independent country. This particular rebellion was not successful, though it engendered sympathies for this cause, and the men and women involved have become legends. One of these was Joseph Mary Plunkett, who along with the other leaders, including Sean MacDiarmada, was court-martialed and sentenced to die. Joseph had long courted Grace and was allowed to marry her the morning of the day of his execution. The song was written to memorialize this event in Irish history.
In searching for the words to “Grace“, I discovered a web-site titled, irishsongs.com/, which was very helpful. And in the banner menu was the selection “Trips and Tours”. My eyes lit up! Imagine what could be possible. The tour itinerary appealed to me … then this caught my eye. Each year he performs in Ireland while bringing a tour group from America. But there is a lot more to Donal’s story. When you visit his web-site be sure to read his story under “About Donal”.
This web-site is run by a young entertainer: singer, songwriter, teller of stories, by the name of Donal O’Shaughnnessy. Donal is a multi-talented performer, a self-taught musician who plays Guitar, Fiddle, Keyboards, Pipe Organ, Bodhran and Mandolin. He is probably best known for his live performances, as his quick wit and spontaneity with the audience keeps people in their seats until the very end of the night. Donal brings his show throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Baltimore, Ocean City, MD, New England and Canada.
Despite his very busy schedule, this young man was exceedingly kind and generous with his time in personally answering all my questions and later guiding me to the Tour person who will help me finalize the details. He has been responsive and considerate of my interest. Since a very early age, I have been interested in Ireland, wanted to travel abroad as a young college student, but never had the opportunity. Here I am, at last, on the verge of realizing this dream. Donal’s tour is economical enough for me to take the leap. The places being visited are fascinating, and I am over the moon with excitement!
If you ever want to travel to Ireland, with a small group led by a personable, talented entertainer, a bard in the old-fashioned sense, I suggest you contact Donal O’Shaughnessy at (607)731-8826 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
