Moments

..episode3screencap

There are moments when the feeling captured on Colin’s face leaves me dumbstruck.  I had already very much enjoyed the first two episodes of Humans and his portrayal of Leo … Then … In the third …

In the third, as Max jerks the bottle from his mouth, this image flashes before us.  The recognition of what we had unconsciously been missing lights up the screen and teases our latent memories.  “There it is!” … That quintessential Colin, the pure, unfiltered revelation of his character’s state of mind, there is sorrow, just that instant leaving its mark, like no one else in the world can do.”

..

(Thanks to mywhisperingmind for this important screen capture.)

Yes, Suntse, I felt the same…especially towards the end of the episode 3. ❤

    • Yes, I loved the happiness in his smile at the end, as well. That brilliance which lights up his face and brings us with him.

This was a moment of sadness, of deep sorrow, and one can see the pain in his eyes and the contours of his face … poignant and beautiful. In those seconds, we hurt for him, and for his loss … more than words can convey.

    • Leah, I meant to say that I want to highlight the smile, also … but haven’t yet found a screen shot that pleases me. It’s a tough one to capture at just the right moment.
I’m off to work, but do any of you know if farfaraway is publishing Humans the way they did Merlin … frame by frame?

Suntse, as you hoped for before, this looks like the place where Colin’s marvelous gifts will be seen by a larger audience. Just wish if AMC is going to cut things, it wouldn’t be Colin’s scenes. I am assuming, and hoping, that the UK DVD version is the original.

Can AMC cut scenes? Why? I’m watching the original from Channel 4 and it’s perfect as it is.

Leah, they don’t cut whole scenes, they just nibble around the edges to make room for more advertising. Sadly, PBS does it, too. And I imagine BBCA. This kind of thing has been going on for a long time. When the original Star Trek went into syndication, pieces of film started showing up for sale: the ones they had cut to make way for ads.

    • Joan, I think that is a very safe assumption … that the dvd’s will be the original in its entirety. 😉

Suntse, colinmorganismagical published that photo…Colin’s moment, when he found where Mia could be and the last smile…he looks precious, eyes full of hope <3, the same expression that made us all fall in love with him. ❤

  4. Overall, I am still trying to polish this post. I am not completely pleased with my choice of language, though the screen cap is perfect (Jen!) … so more work to be done. Later, I think, perhaps the ‘little gray cells’ will hint at an answer after they’ve rested a bit. 🙂

All day yesterday, time allowing, I kept returning to this photo. I didn’t know why I was drawn to it. There are many wonderful screencaps of Colin/Leo so far, and there will be more. So why did this one keep pulling me back in?

Then I realized what it was. I have seen this, and other similar looks, before in other screencaps – but not from Humans. It’s one of the first of Leo that has reminded me of the young sorcerer who grew up in front of our eyes.

Take away the scruff, and that’s Merlin.

Agree with you Jen, I felt the same. By the end of ep. 3 I saw Merlin in Leo/Colin.
Merlin’s expressions are unforgettable, they touched my soul as well as Calum.

    • This is his magic. I saw it, you captured it. So many of the other screen shots don’t catch this … but you did.

And I am drawn to it also, time after time, and am so grateful to have it, Jen!

For me, it’s more than Merlin. It is Colin’s gift, which we saw first in Merlin … but it is all Colin. And though we had no way of seeing this remarkable young actor any earlier in his career, he already had this intrinsic ability and carried his subtlety lightly and gave us our first glimpses in The Dragon’s Call. It was there for us in the first scene of the first episode, but it was not new to him, only to us.

Oh, guys, you are so making me jealous! But also really excited about upcoming episodes. This is really a wonderful screen cap. Please, AMC, do not clip this to make way for ads.

‘The first scene of the first episode’: every time I rewatch ‘I’m Merlin’ I feel like I find more and more being said beneath the words. You’re right, Suntse.

Agree with all of you again, that moment “I’m Merlin” is Colin and his gift and I was missing that in Humans’s episodes 1 and 2, but in 3 it happened. 🙂
Thanks for the screen shot, Jen.

      • I agree Leah … I was missing ‘him’ too, until Max jerked the bottle from his mouth and the camera settled on his sorrowful reaction. There it was, that magic, and we will see more of it, surely,.

It just seemed to me that from that moment he owned the part of Merlin. I have watched the first Merlin episode so many times that I don’t remember how I felt the first time, but I see it now. The multiple story lines in Humans means only glimpses of the characters at the beginning. The Hawkins family seems to be at the center of everyone else’s attention right now, but I don’t see much new there–except for Anita, pretty standard stuff. It’s Leo’s family that is the real mystery. And much more interesting.

Of course, Joan! Leo’s family is the interesting one, each one of them were made with a different personality and Leo is protecting them, although Niska ” thinks and feels” the opposite.
